For the second installment of my Sitdowns With Startups series, I sat down for a chat with Matthew Hooper, CEO of SMAK. I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Matt a little bit over the past few months through interactions at various MassChallenge events. Matt and his team at SMAK are building a tool to help alleviate a problem that we’re all facing these days; message overload. Rather than being relegated to “drinking from the firehouse” and facing the repercussions from such an endeavor, SMAK funnels the water into smaller, more manageable buckets from which to drink. Better yet, the tool enables its users to determine how the buckets are organized and when to drink from them. SMAK filters the noise to produce “Conversations, not clutter!”
I caught up with Matt at SMAK’s offices within MassChallenge shortly before their recent beta launch. The following is a portion of the lengthy and informative discussion we had:

The folks at SMAK created a fun one minute animated video to give you a general sense of who they are and how they can help (click here to view it if you don’t see the video below):
If you’d like a quick glance at SMAK and how it works, you can click here for a 5 minute tutorial of the tool shown through a screencast.
Lastly, I asked Matt to share a bit of his experience as a MassChallenge participant. The following is what he had to say:
